I agree with all the points in the blog, the only thing I would add would be that in Canada the Canadian Association of Movers (CAM)can help you choose a mover that has all the above points.

  3. John says:

It is always a good idea to look into Associations in you country to get tips on and about your move.

Finding a reputable mover that has positive reviews is a MUST! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard of people getting scammed because they went with the absolute cheapest quote. There is a reason some people are priced a little higher than others- the quality of service and peace of mind are well worth a few extra bucks.

Great tips, it is important to sort out your things before you start packing, it is also useful to put label on box that tells you what you have in there, this will make the unpacking easier.

I just came across your blog while browsing for moving and storage information. Your article about how to have a stress-free move was especially interesting. I especially liked your comments about packing early and be prepared for anything that may come up; self-storage is an easy fix to hold belongings you don’t want to move with you. I am adding you to my favorites. We’re writing from a mini-storage facility in Monrovia, CA called Dry Dock Storage:, a very helpful service or option to know about when moving. We’re currently offering exclusive online specials for self storage. These 50% off specials can be found at our web site. Any feedback would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

This article is right on point. In our experience, to many customers wait to the last minute to prepare. A good 30 days of planning should be put in before the move. From getting packing supplies, choosing a vendor and redirecting your mail, it’s best to have it done well in advance.

Great tips and advice for those planning a relocation. Another great tip is to use a plastic crate hire company to move your items quicker and safer.

Great article. It’s better and cheeper to do packing yourself. Note: if you do packing yourself you should ask a moving company who will move you about their packing requirements or standards. Because if you pack something not the way it supposed to be according their standards, a mover may refuse to transport it or will repack it at additional charge.

  14. Bill says:

Great post. The best way to help avoid stress and strain is to get a moving company to help with the packing and unpacking. This will definitely help your upcoming move go smoothly.

I think it is difficult to have a stress free move. It is not easy to relax and stay calm prior to your move either because the anticipation is something will go wrong. Preparation and organization are keys to make it as hassle free as possible though.

Packing early and over a few weeks not only reduces stress but allows you time to sort and purge what you don’t really need. Also by packing over a few weeks, you can get your boxes packed and out of the way if you are in the middle of trying to sell your house.
