Moving Brokers vs Moving Companies – which ones to use?

Submitted by Moving Guru on July 2, 2009 – 2:08 amOne Comment

Every movers website offers free moving quotes. Many websites that are obviously not moving companies also offer moving quotes and they say that they will provide you with moving quotes from several different movers. What should we choose?

Moving Brokers

The moving brokers and agents are websites that provide free moving quotes. These websites provide your contact information to third companies which connect directly with you by phone or email without any information provided who will have your contact details. In most cases you will be contacted by at least 3 different moving companies. The moving companies will start offering lower and lower price to beat the competition. Sometimes they offer lower price than their expenses associated with the move just to take the moving job, and in the moving process they change the final price that they have quoted previously. The moving brokers (the website you have filled the quote in) do not take any responsibility about these moving companies. Sometimes the real moving company name is unknown just until the moving day. This is quite disturbing because you cannot research and read customers reviews on the moving company you are giving your belongings to for transportation.

Moving Companies

When you visit a moving company website and fill the moving quote form, you will receive only one quote from this very same company. In this case you will be able to research the moving company online before booking because you will be able to retrieve the company information from their website. Usually the moving companies with better websites that include their license and certification information are safer and more responsible to your belongings than movers without websites that work with brokers and agents only. By choosing an individual moving company you can read the BBB report and D.O.T. number checkup in the Dept. of Transportation to see if the movers are safe. The price quote should be more accurate than using brokers. You can repeat the same process with several different moving companies and choose the one that fits your budget best.

We at The Moving Blog also provide free moving quotes and currently we forward your information to only one professional moving company we have researched in advance and we trust.

Remember – always research your movers online and read mover reviews before moving and write a mover review after comleting the move.

  • That is a great distinction. My opinion is to go with a moving company the first time. Brokers never seem to work out just right. Look for a local agent that represents a national brand and they’ll do you good.
