Request free moving quotes from movers.
Many moving companies provide moving quotes and most of them do it for free. Having a moving estimate sent to your e-mail gives you information for your costs and time schedule. You should be very careful as there are rogue movers that won’t send you actual estimate quote. Their only goal is to get you on the hook. At the end there are some hidden fees that you are obliged to pay. Some companies change the moving date because they have not coordinated your move with their schedule. There are also cases when companies even hire other agents to handle your move without any notice in advance which brings a lot of unwanted surprises.
What do moving companies say?
We asked Xpress Movers about the practices while handling their clients. They explained some details about their quote preparation. According to Mr. Andreev, the logistics manager of the moving company, Xpress Movers handles every prospect customer with great care and attention to details: “Having every single client satisfied is our ultimate goal. This means we will keep him as a client and on top of that we will have all his friends and family as future clients …”. The quote preparation starts in the Xpress Movers headquarters. The requested time frame of each client is coordinated with the company’s schedule. Both pickup and delivery dates are confirmed and assigned with a moving team. According to the moving type, the office employees are estimating the loading, unloading and driving time if it is within the state or the approximate weight if it is an interstate move. Every client is contacted for more details which makes the moving quote even more accurate. “We usually have no more than 10-15% difference in the final price, and this is pretty accurate.” says Mr. Andreev (Logistics manager of Xpress Movers – www.XpressMovers.com)
Our advice: Ask for detailed moving information
When you choose a moving company and request moving estimate quote, ask for more detailed information. Before sign any contract, be sure that you understand all the clauses. Otherwise you are risking to be surprised with additional hidden fees. Find a licensed and experienced mover and any of this won’t happen to you. You can find out if a moving company is registered at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website.

I totally agree, with the previous comment. Wheaton World Wide Moving has some great resources on their site. I love the “get a ballpark figure” feature. It really puts in perspective around how much your move will cost. I certainly recommend using Wheaton World Wide as a resource if you plan on moving.
