Most people consider moving as a stressful event in their life. In most cases they don’t have enough time to organize their move. And naturally, when you are on a busy schedule you are more likely to miss something, or to make a mistake which can cost a fortune. When you are about to move and you are hiring a relocating company, there are some questions that you must ask your movers. Moving is quite frustrating activity, but knowing what questions to ask when hiring a moving company will save a lot of further troubles. Here is a list of very important questions to ask your movers.

Mover or Broker

One of the very key questions to ask when hiring movers is if they are a moving company or just moving brokers.

A moving broker is definitely not a mover. Brokers do not have the operational and logistic competences moving companies have. They do not provide their own moving trucks, movers, proper moving equipment, and in a most of the cases they don’t have much moving experience. Moving brokers are nothing more than sales teams that book your move and sell it to real moving companies.

When you book your move remember to ask the company whether they are an actual movers or just brokers. As a broker won’t take any responsibility about the whole move, be sure that you are using a professional moving company. Moreover, there are cases when brokers transfer you to third party mover before asking you for confirmation.

Ask your mover about US DOT number

You may be pressed by time, but you definitely don’t want to be dealing with a rogue moving company. Every registered mover in the US Department of Transportation is obliged to follow certain rules and regulation concerning safety measures. Ask your relocating company to provide you with their US DOT number. You can run a moving company check online in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website and find out if your potential mover is registered and licensed. You better choose carefully who is going to handle your belongings. This will help you avoid moving scams.

Moving estimate quotes

Ask your mover about a moving estimate quote. Most movers provide their customers with free moving quotes through e-mail messages. There are two types of moving estimates – binding and non-binding estimates.

Binding Moving Estimate – Binding estimate is an agreement that you make in advance with your mover, which guarantees the final moving cost based on the quantities and services shown on the estimate.

Non-Binding Moving Estimate – Under the non-binding estimate you are charged based on what your mover assumes the cost will be, depending on the estimated weight of the shipment and the additional services requested. A non-binding estimate is not binding to the moving company. The final charges will be based upon the actual weighting of your shipment and the moving services provided.

Insurance Related Questions to Ask Movers

One of the most important questions to ask moving companies is if you can see the packing materials costs in advance. Usually packing is about 20% to 30% of the final moving costs.

Require from your mover to give you detailed information on the insurance options. Under Federal law, interstate movers are obliged offer you two different liability options referred to as valuation coverage: Full Value Protection and Released Value Protection. The Full Value protection suggests that your mover is liable for the replacement value of lost or damaged goods in your entire shipment. Under the Released Value protection your mover assumes liability for no more than 60 cents per pound per item. Before making a decision make sure that you fully understand the insurance options which your mover offers you. If you are performing a long distance move make sure that the insurance is valid in both moving locations.

Payment Questions to Ask When Hiring Movers

Payment related questions to ask are essential as in most cases moving costs differ a lot. Usually, moving companies accept most major credit cards, money orders, bank checks or payment through the PayPal system. Most times there is an initial moving deposit when hiring movers and when your goods are delivered, before movers start unloading your belongings, you pay the rest. Keep in mind that the initial moving deposit should not increase 15% from the total estimated amount.

Ask About the Dispute Settlement Program

Last, but not least, ask your movers about their dispute settlement program. You better know what to expect from your movers in case problems occur during your move. A reliable moving company should provide you with such contractual arrangement prior moving.

Before signing a contract with your mover be sure you fully understand all the clauses. Do not sign if you have any doubts or other moving relates concerns. Ask questions to your movers about every step of the moving process. If you don’t understand something, ask the moving company to explain it to you. After all we all want to enjoy a smooth moving experience. Find a professional mover that will answer all of your questions and will handle your belongings with great care.

Here are some simple steps you need to do when choosing professional Northern Virginia movers.

Steps when choosing Northern Virgina Movers.

It is very important to research your Northern Virginia moving company before booking. Here are the questions you need to ask your movers before booking:

Is the company licensed and insured?
Absolutely a must! Ask this first and do not move with a company that is not licensed and insured. Check the BBB accreditation of the movers before booking with them.

Will the mover send a representative for a visual estimate?
If your move is local and you are moving just a few boxes or an small apartment, the mover can skip sending a representative to your home for a visual on-site estimate. On the other hand if the move is a state to state moving job, then sending a moving representative to do an in-home moving survey is necessary. It’s not crucial, but you should ask for that.

Are they moving brokers, or a moving company?
Ask if they are going to move your stuff by themselves or if they are some kind of moving brokers that will forward your move to another mover for a fee. It is always a good idea to deal with a moving company directly.

Do they offer multiple tiers of service?
Does the moving company offer the service you want? Some people prefer to pack their own belongings and use recycled boxes to reduce moving costs. Others are willing to pay more for a comprehensive service, which may include custom crating and packing/unpacking services.

Reputable Moving Company

How to determine that the Northern Virginia movers you have selected are reputable enough to handle your upcoming move flawlessly. Here are some things to look for:

What is the company’s record with the Better Business Bureau?
Look for businesses that have been around for some time, with a satisfactory record. The BBB is an organization that objectively monitors businesses to ensure fair practices and consumer satisfaction. Disreputable companies will not volunteer information about their standing with the BBB. Hiring BBB movers will not guarantee a stress free move, but this is an additional thing to research in the process of finding a relocation company.

Can they provide references?
Customers usually recommend companies and return to service providers they were satisfied with. A good moving company will readily provide names of past customers you can call and speak with.

What kind of training do the movers undergo?
Experts are able to use their experience to anticipate and head-off potential problems. A good company will train their workers intensively in driving, packing, and, most importantly – customer service.

Do they deliver a variety of boxes and supplies?
Your Northern Virginia moving company should offer the sale and delivery of packing materials at a competitive prices. Ask and recycled boxes may be supplied, either free or at a reduced price.

Does the company appoint a manager who is directly responsible for the success of your move?
Ask for an office number where you can direct your moving questions, especially on the moving day. Make sure the move goes smoothly and complies with your written agreement. Inquire about the supervisor responsible for your move.

Customer feedback.
Companies will solicit your feedback. It is an important resource used to improve the overall moving service and maintain a good company reputation.

The Moving Essentials

What are the most important things to look for when choosing a reliable Northern Virginia moving company? We have selected the most important aspects you should be aware of before singing with your moving company.

Do you get a binding moving estimate?

Don’t do business with a mover that is giving to you non-binding estimates. When the moving estimate is non-binding, there is a great chance to receive a final price considerably higher than the first estimate the movers provided you with.

Is the moving company licensed and insured?

Ask for the mover’s Department of Transport (DOT) number. Cut-rate moving companies and cheap movers will almost always lack permits, workers compensation insurances and licenses established by law to protect the consumer from fraud and liability. Licenses have to be purchased, approved and renewed regularly. They ensure that you will be covered by basic insurance and that you will have a clear grievance process if a dispute arises.

Will the moving company perform all aspects of the move, or do they use subcontractors or agents?

Subcontractors do not have a direct contract with you. Agreements made between you and the moving company, are separate. You should insist on receiving in writing all information about who will be doing your move in advance. If you are not happy with the response, look for another vendor.

What do you think we should be looking for before choosing a moving company? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

No matter what your reasons for moving (job relocation, change of scenery, etc), moving across the country is a stressful event. Packing your entire life into cardboard boxes and transporting them across the map can be time consuming, stressful, and expensive. Knowing that your belongings will arrive safely at your destination can reduce some of the stress associated with a cross-country move so here are some tips that will help you ensure that your precious possessions show up unscratched at your new house.

Pack it Tight when moving Cross Country

This is a good tip for any move – whether it’s across town or around the world. The more packing material you use, the less likely your valuable items will break. If you have the means, hire a professional packer to handle your valuables while you handle the unbreakables like books and movies. It also helps if you have the original packaging for items like TV’s or fine china. Packing it tight is a good tip for filling boxes, but is also valuable when loading it onto the truck as well. Having boxes or furniture sliding around the trailer is a terrible way to ensure the safety of your valuables. Pack the heavy furniture and appliances near the front of the trailer (closest to the cab) and leave the back space for boxes and other easily interchangeable items. The less wiggle room, the better. Another good idea when moving long distance is to hire professional cross country movers.

If you have to store your move, make sure you do your research about a reliable storage facility near you new place. No matter if you are looking for reliable Bronx storage facility near the NYC area or you are looking for storage cell in Los Angeles, having it near your new home will be more convenient for you if you need to access your stuff in the meantime.

Leave the Driving to the Professionals

There are few things that will leave you at increased risk for accidents quite like a cross-country drive. Not to mention driving your car or truck from coast to coast puts unnecessary wear and tear on your engine and its parts. Don’t risk getting in an accident or spending gas money driving cross-country. Consider an auto transport company to handle shipping your car or truck from your old driveway to the new. Shop around and get as many vehicle shipping quotes as you can though. Sometimes the first company you find isn’t always the cheapest one.

Enjoy your Cross Country Moving

Making a cross-country move represents a new chapter in your life. The more your focus on the negatives, the less enjoyable your trip will become. Think about all the new adventures and experiences you will get to take part in. You will get to meet new friends, start a new job, live in a new house, and see new sights.

So stop dreading your cross country move and get packing – who knows what adventures await!

Don’t risk the life of your beloved golden fishes or exotic fishes. Learn how to move your aquarium safe and easy in just few simple steps. Here is the complete aquarium moving guide:.

Most moving companies will give you some tips about moving an aquarium, but to make sure that everything is handled perfect, you need to make the moving by yourself or supervise the moving process.. After all it’s your fishes that you need to worry about.

So let’s start with the fish moving tips. Fishes are extremely pretentious animals and very sensible when it comes to moving, especially moving long distance. Even in the most comfy car, there is a great chance to loose some. Some exotic kinds just can’t take the long distance. Sometimes it’s just better to give your fishes to your neighbor.

Do, not try to move the tank when the fishes are inside, that is a bad decision. What you should do first is to take the fish out of the tank into a smaller transportation devise filled with water. You should empty the fish tank before transportation.

Moving the Fish Tank

The main problem when moving your aquarium will be the filtration system. After a short period of time, sometimes just few hours (less than a day) without a flow of oxygen-laden water, aerobic bacteria start to die. This means that if you are moving short distance (an hour drive or so), it may be possible to preserve your bacteria colony. This leads to the following process:

Put your fish into a holding container. (I will explain more about this below).

Empty your aquarium. If the move is going to be really short, then keep some of the water inside. That way you will keep the bacteria.

Disassemble your tank. Aquarium plants will survive a fair amount of time if their roots are kept wet, so it should be possible to bag them with some water and set them aside for hand-moving.

Move your tank. Don’t use a moving company unless you are sure that they are really experienced and have the knowledge how to do that.

Reassemble your tank at your destination.

Where to Put the Fishes while Moving

You should transport the fish separately while your tank is being transported. There are three basic options:

A friend’s tank (the best choice).

A pet store tank.

Temporary holding container.

Tips for transporting the fishes

For short periods of time (a couple of hours, tops) you can put the fish in sealed bags, half-filled with air. Fishes are basically too stressed during the move, so don’t try to feed them, you will only make the water dirty.

Moving aquariums and fish is not an easy task. The moving companies are usually not qualified to handle a task like that. If you decide to let the movers handle the move, find a moving company that has experience with this kind of relocation services.

You are about to move. It does not matter if you have had previous experience or being a first timer – there always is a certain degree of stress involved with moving. Most probably the first question that comes to mind before the process is: „What should i do to begin with in order to make it less stressful, faster and cheaper? “. Paddle your own canoe? Wrong. The right answer – finding a reliable moving company could save you all the woes.

Finding Reliable Moving Companies

It may sound easy but in reality, it is very hard to deal with. With tons of companies to choose from sorting the good from the bad is essential. In order to make sure that you end up with a reliable relocation company, the key is to determine what services of a moving company do you require and which among the many moving companies can provide them. There are actually full service local movers who have the capacity and skill to provide various moving services including long distance or cross country moves, residential or apartment packers, storage and even office or building relocation.

Call Local Moving Companies for estimates

Assuming you have chosen several moving companies it’s time to decide which suits you best. Decide what you will be transporting and what you will be taking with you. Pick up your phone, call the movers you are considering for the job and make appointments for them to come to your home and ask for an estimate. Knowing how much you need to ship will help you get a more accurate estimate and if you can afford it, let the movers do both the packing and unloading. Items a mover packs will be covered by the company’s insurance. Be sure to understand your estimate correctly and the entire inventory is spot-on, because if they miss something you will end paying more on the moving day.

Staying Organized is Essential

Anyone can tell you that moving day is not that simple. There are plenty of things that need to be done, and if there are still any left to do, you are sure to feel stressed out. While you might think it is impossible to limit moving day stress, I am here to tell you that it is indeed possible and you too can make your moving day a day that was fun, stress free, and easy. Perhaps the number one thing that will reduce the stress that you feel on moving day is planning and organization. If you make sure to plan things out and organize the move correctly, you will not have to worry about when and how things will get done. If any problems arise don’t hesitate and communicate with the movers throughout the day. You can also reduce the tension by not overreacting to little setbacks ahead of time, because they are common even if you have planned moving correctly.

Research your Moving Companies

Before booking your moving company you should research it very carefully in advance. Do your homework because this could save you thousands of dollars if you end us with a scammy moving company. Finding a reliable moving company that will complete your move cheaply is not an easy task. One you prepare a list of local moving companies, go online and research what is posted online on their company names. There are plenty of online review websites you can search for reliable moving companies. You can also call some of the best performing movers and moving companies with the best reputation online.

The brand new search service implemented at MyMovingReviews.com would clearly help with the task. It is an efficient way to find a trustworthy moving company in your region based on moving reviews. There is also no need to ask around – most of the moving companies are reviewed and evaluated by past clients. This great and useful feature is invaluable when choosing a mover.

Moving can be stressful and difficult but there are ways to alleviate it as well. The single thought of loading your life onto a truck seems scary indeed and that’s why its essential to know whose truck it is. It makes you realize the importance of finding reliable moving company with professionals that can be trusted. You may put aside all those troubles with just a single mouse click on the search button at MyMovingReviews.com.Think about it. Technology is great isn’t it?

How much does it cost to hire movers?

You are about to move and you don’t know what to expect in terms of pricing? What is cheap and what is expensive. What is normal for professional movers. Finding and hiring real professional movers is not an easy task. Most of the moving companies provide free moving quotes but what does the final amount tells us.

In most cases you are in one of the two main pricing categories – Local Movers or Interstate Movers:

Local Movers Cost

Local movers charge by the hour. The estimate you should receive by the moving company should be based on an hourly cost and estimated hours to complete the move. Sometimes movers have additional fees and you should ask in advance about them to make sure the estimate you get is as close as the final movers cost. Usually mover charge 1 hour as a travel fee (the time the movers get to your location and back from the destination) with the regular hourly rate. Most professional movers rates are from $85/hour to $95/hour depending on the date. Busy dates are more expensive (in the end of the month, especially in the Summer). These prices include 2 men and a truck. So a sample mini move of 3 hours will cost you approximately 3hours + 1 hour travel time = 4hours x $85 in the best case scenario comes to $340 total. Most movers will ask for a deposit when scheduling the move so they can reserve the date for you. Click here to have a free moving cost estimate by professional movers.

Interstate Movers Cost

How much does it cost to hire movers cross country?

The cost of the interstate moves, movers cross country and state to state moves are determined by the weight. Usually the moving company will determine your moving weight by asking for the complete furniture and boxes list on the phone (or by email) in order to prepare the moving quote for you. When providing your household items list try to be exactly accurate to have the closest possible moving estimate. Some movers charge light and bulky fees if you have too big items with relatively low weight. For example if you are moving from a 2 bedroom house (with a garage, basement, living room, kitchen, etc) in most cases your stuff will weigh about 5-6000 pounds. If you move it to about 1000 miles away it will cost you about $3500-$4000 for the complete move. If you receive a moving quote for a lot less than this amount, you are dealing with non professionals or they deliberately lower your costs just to book and you. If this is the case you should expect a raise once they have picked your stuff and before the delivery. Click here for a complete Interstate move estimate to know how much does it cost to hire movers cross country.

How much does it cost to hire movers

This question could have very different answers depending on your moving locations, type of move (local or interstate) and the moving company. For a complete moving estimate, call Xpress Movers at 800-778-4177.

The key to a successful move when moving something heavy is to use your brain rather than your muscles. The first thing that you should do is to ensure that all heavy items can fit through openings and around corners of your home. If you think that some item is too big to fit through some door, then you should disassemble that particular item to avoid any scratches on your door or the floor (especially if it is a hardwood floor).

Then think carefully how you can move the heavy items with the least strain. Once you decide on a strategy, call some friends to help you with the move. The most important thing is to be patient, don’t rush to finish in an hour, move your items carefully. That way you will be able to prevent injuries both to you and your belongings. If necessary, find more helpers.

Packing Heavy Items before Moving

When you are moving heavy items you should always try to make your items lighter by removing all of its contents. It’s just silly to move your bureau when there are numerous books in it. Make sure you remove all the inside shelves if you are moving a heavy entertainment center or a big dresser. That way you will make it liter and you will prevent damages that might occur once you rotate the furniture around to fit the doors.

Packing heavy items before moving is essential especially if you are moving wooden furniture. That way you will preserve the furniture from scratching and also you will prevent damages and stains to the walls. Use furniture pads or blankets and tape them around the piece of furniture. Make sure the blankets are carefully taped so the furniture piece is easy to grab and move.

Some Effective Tips for Moving Heavy Items

Remember, pushing is a lot easier and more effective than pulling. So if some item is too heavy to be lifted, then you and your moving helpers should push that item, not pull it. Don’t forget however that when pushing something across the floor you should put old newspapers or blankets under it. You don’t want to damage your floor. To move a heavy item, like a refrigerator, you should get behind it, lean it towards you, and then you could walk it slowly from side to side.

Moving Heavy Furniture

To move your couch or anything else with legs, you should lay it on its back or side and slide it as much as you can. Sometimes you should remove the legs if possible to make it fit the doors. Some heavy furniture like large armorers and really big couches may have to go through the windows if the don’t fit the doors. Make sure you have plenty of rope for situations like that.

Heavy kitchen items, such as fridge freezers, dishwashers and washing machines, will slide much easier on the vinyl floor if you spray a little washing-up liquid on the floor first.

Moving Heavy Items Through the Stairs

To get some heavy items down the stairs, you can use two boards as a ramp. Make sure there are at least two friends to help you if you decide to so that. Another option is to lay the object on a quilt or heavy blanket; control the descent with your shoulder as you back down, lifting the leading edge of the ‘skid’ slightly with both hands.

Moving Plasma or Big LCD TVs

Get enough blankets and/or furniture pads, which can be purchased from a moving company or truck rental agency, to cover and protect the TV set entirety. If you have the original box of your TV, it is best to use it for the move, if not, cover your TV with furniture pad and wrap the TV very carefully. Do not move your TV by yourself. Some plasma TV’s are very large but not that heavy and you may think that you can be able to handle the moving job all by yourself. Call a friend to help you, it would be much easier for you and safer for the TV.

That’s for now. Stay tuned for more helpful moving tips on TheMovingBlog.com

We all know that moving is a very stressful experience. That’s why we divided a couple of simple moving techniques and stress free moving tips to make you move smoother and easier.

Lower your moving costs

Before you begin the packing process, you should look around and decide what of your belongings you really need and use. It’s amazing how much unnecessary stuff we buy over the years, so there is absolutely no point to move something that you don’t need or use. Arrange a garage sale or give clothes you don’t wear to charity. This way everyone will benefit from the move and the price that you are going to pay for your move will be a lot smaller.

Plan the moving day carefully. Yes, a professional moving company will move your belonging in bad weather, but it will be much less stressful if you move in a sunny day. You will prevent water damage to your boxes. Keep in mind that some old moving trucks might leak and flood some of your items while transportation. So watch the weather forecast to make your decision.

Choosing a Stress Free Moving Company

Here, at the TheMovingBlog.com we have numerous articles and tips about the painful decision of picking a reliable and stress-free moving company. Here are just the most important steps that you should follow for your hunt of the perfect mover:

Start reading moving reviews of moving companies. Research your moving company in advance. Booking with a safer relocation provider with guarantee a stress-free moving experience for you and your family. Pick a couple of moving companies with good moving reviews and reputation.

Check if the moving company that you want to hire is FULLY licensed. Thrust me, you don’t want to deal with an unlicensed movers. This is the most important stress free moving tip. Going with an unlicensed mover might cause you a lot of troubles, money and delays.

Check if you are FULLY insured. That way you won’t end up paying for a broken TV. You can purchase moving insurance from most professional moving companies. This will cover your most expensive items you’ve declared.

Check if your company is a BBB mover. Call your local Better Business Bureau office and check if there are any serious complaints against your mover.

Finally if you are sure that your movers is licensed, insured and there are no scaring complaints against it, you could start asking for free moving estimates. But remember, you don’t have to pick the lowest moving estimate you have received. If a moving cost estimate is considerably lower than the others you have received, then you should think twice before hiring that mover. An extremely low moving estimate often brings hidden charges during the move and unexpected delays.

Collecting moving supplies

Buying moving supplies and moving boxes is the next big step of moving. Contact your moving company and ask them to provide to you with packing supplies. Ask them for their supplies price list and decide if you are doing to let them pack everything or if you are going to do the packing yourself. You will need boxes in different sizes, markers to label the boxes and off course bubble-wrap for all fragile items.

Start packing early

The last tip for your successful stress free move is to start packing early. Make a moving checklist and start packing at least two or three weeks before the move. That way the chance of forgetting something is very small.

If you are moving to Boston or out of Boston, then you should check out BostonMoversUSA.com, FULLY licensed and Insured Boston Movers with affordable moving services. Check our Houston moving guide if you are moving within Texas.

Whether you’re moving locally in Boston to a new home, or moving long distance, it is always a complicated task. First you need to pack all of your belongings using the right packing tools and then you need to clean all the mess that you made during the packing. That’s why, moving is usually quoted as being one of the most stressful experiences that we have to deal with during our lives.

People often think that long distance moves are the most difficult type of moving, but sometimes that’s not the case. Often when you move locally in Boston you need to move more items compared to a long distance move. That happens because when we move long distance or state to state, we donate or sell a lot of our unnecessary items, but when we move locally we think that we can take everything with us.

Challenges when moving in Boston

Boston is an old city with old architecture. The old buildings are hard to access with narrow small staircases especially in the Italian neighborhood. That is why it is a good idea to have a local moving company to handle your moving needs. Local Boston companies are familiar with the specifics of the buildings in the city and can handle your move better.

Boston moves usually take more time than a move in another part in the USA. Most of the old Boston buildings don’t have elevators. The ones that have, are equipped with small old elevators and usually they cannot be reserved for your move. Because of that it takes a lot more time for the movers to move your stuff up or down the stairs.

Yes, there are multiple tasks that you need to do when moving long distance, for example re-register your car and change your driver license. But moving locally in Boston can be even more hard and stressful than your state to state move.

That’s why we are going to provide some helpful tips and ideas that will help you with the choice of a good Boston Local Movers.

Choosing Local Boston Movers

Of course the toughest part when moving locally in Boston is to pick your Boston local mover. As we know, choosing a good Local Boston Mover is difficult. With so many moving companies located in Boston, it’s normal to get confused and stressed with your choice. In additional to that difficult choice, we have all heard horror stories from friends or relatives about the Boston Moving Companies that are going to scam you and take a lot of your money without offering a good moving service in return.

It’s vital to sort the good Local Movers in Boston from the bad. Sounds difficult but actually it’s not. First you need to do a little research about the available Local Movers in Boston. But remember; always check if the moving company that you want to hire is fully licensed and insured. You don’t want to deal with un-licensed Boston Moving Companies. If your moving company is not experienced enough, it can seriously damage your belongings.

Research your Boston movers

After picking several moving companies in Boston you need to read some moving reviews. That way you will be able to distinguish the reputable movers from the low-end cheap Boston moving companies. After you have read some moving reviews it’s time to get moving cost estimates from three or four Boston Local Moving Companies. But don’t choose the lowest moving estimate that you have received. If the moving estimate that you have received from a mover is noticeably low priced than the other moving estimates, then you should think twice about choosing that mover.

If you want to get first class moving services, then you need to pay for them. It’s simple as that. Even if you are looking for a cheap Boston moving service, picking the lowest estimate from a mover is not the right option. Probably there is going to be additional charge during the move to compensate the initial low-ball moving estimate.

Follow those simple tips and you will be able to find a good Boston Moving Company easily.

Here at The Moving Blog, we have numerous articles about the things we should do when moving. Now almost everyone knows the regular moving tips: Always research the mover, read moving reviews for your moving company, always hire a mover that is fully licensed and insured etc. But we often forget to do a couple of simple things that will make our move a lot more stress free. To help with your future move, we are going to define a couple of important moving tips we need to do, but we often forget to.

Prepare a backpack. Put the things that you will use during the move in a backpack. It’s not enough just to put them in your luggage. There are important things that you need to access fast when you are in a hurry. A first aid kit, all necessary documents, two bottles of water and clothing should be put together in one place in your backpack, not separated in a couple of different cases.

Gather all of your records together. Your medical, dental, yours and your children’s school records are very important. You need to make sure you got all at one place. Some schools accept only original documents, so copies will not do. Try to find all of your original records and gather them at one place. God forbid something happens to you before you find a new family doctor. But if you have your medical records on hand can alleviate this problem.

Old phone books. Don’t forget to take all of your phone books with you. There is a great chance to loose them if you pack them with the move itself in one of the many moving boxes.

Dry cleaning. Remember to pick up your dry cleaning. Also if you have left something for repair you need to pick it up before the move.

Garage doors. It is something that we often forget when moving. Get the garage door opener key or card out of your car.

Bank accounts. If you are moving out of town or out of state, you need to set up a bank account ahead of time. Some banks put a hold on out of town checks and that is always a problem when you need to pay bills at your new place. Also some merchants won’t accept your out of town checks.

Being prepared and organized during your move is very important. Did we miss something important? Let us know in the comments and we will include your ideas in the post.

Moving locally or across town is difficult and complicated enough, but when you need to do it quickly, things could get really overwhelming. The solution to the problem is to choose professional and reliable last minute movers. We are here to help you choosing a last minute mover, because moving is always a challenge, no matter how prepared you are.

Even though most moving companies perform local last minute relocation, there are some movers that could organize a quick long distance move. Choose the right last minute mover and you will be able to move and settle in within a very short period of time.

First, make a research about moving companies who can provide last minute moving services. Not all movers could handle same day move or last minute moving.

Choose at least four or five last minute moving companies and get moving estimates from them. Compare the estimate quotes and make your choice. Do not rush for the cheapest. Be careful, you may be dealing with unprofessional rogue mover.

Always check if your mover is fully licensed and insured. The US Department of Transportation obliged movers to follow certain safety rules and regulation. Ask your movers to provide you with their US DOT number and run a check in the Federal Motor Carrier Administration website.

Go to the local BBB (Better Business Bureau) and check for information about the moving company you want to hire. If there are any complaints against your mover, you will be able to find out how the moving company responded to them.

The Best Last Minute Movers

Usually, move planning takes a couple of weeks, but when you are on a schedule, you need a last minute moving company that would take good care of your belongings. It’s a good idea to read some reviews about moving companies. Check for moving reviews to see how quickly your mover will be able to handle your move. When reading moving reviews be cautious and skip too positive or too negative ones – most likely to be fake. There are disloyal movers who would do anything to boost their ranking.

In the end don’t forget that you are hiring last minute movers to do a service for your benefit. Even though you have to move in very short time, feel free to call your mover and ask for references. The more good references you get the better chances for a smooth moving you have.
