Every movers website offers free moving quotes. Many websites that are obviously not moving companies also offer moving quotes and they say that they will provide you with moving quotes from several different movers. What should we choose?
Moving Brokers
The moving brokers and agents are websites that provide free moving quotes. These websites provide your contact information to third companies which connect directly with you by phone or email without any information provided who will have your contact details. In most cases you will be contacted by at least 3 different moving companies. The moving companies will start offering lower and lower price to beat the competition. Sometimes they offer lower price than their expenses associated with the move just to take the moving job, and in the moving process they change the final price that they have quoted previously. The moving brokers (the website you have filled the quote in) do not take any responsibility about these moving companies. Sometimes the real moving company name is unknown just until the moving day. This is quite disturbing because you cannot research and read customers reviews on the moving company you are giving your belongings to for transportation.
Moving Companies
When you visit a moving company website and fill the moving quote form, you will receive only one quote from this very same company. In this case you will be able to research the moving company online before booking because you will be able to retrieve the company information from their website. Usually the moving companies with better websites that include their license and certification information are safer and more responsible to your belongings than movers without websites that work with brokers and agents only. By choosing an individual moving company you can read the BBB report and D.O.T. number checkup in the Dept. of Transportation to see if the movers are safe. The price quote should be more accurate than using brokers. You can repeat the same process with several different moving companies and choose the one that fits your budget best.
We at The Moving Blog also provide free moving quotes and currently we forward your information to only one professional moving company we have researched in advance and we trust.
Remember - always research your movers online and read mover reviews before moving and write a mover review after comleting the move.

What are the normal average moving costs? The average hourly moving costs depend on two major factors: the moving companies and the location state.
Moving companies hourly moving costs
The different moving companies have very different moving costs. For example for the Boston and New England area you can find movers for $75-85 per hour for two people up to more than $100 per hour.
The average hourly moving rates for 2 men and a truck is about $170 per hour In most cases the price corresponds to the quality of service. Be careful of phantom movers and always research you movers. Always double check the movers reviews and movers ratings online. Thy getting several moving quotes from different companies and compare. Don’t always go for the cheapest moving company, because it could cost you a lot more than the money spent on the whole moving itself. Speak with the movers representative on the phone, pay attention to the hourly movers rates. A very important factor is the travel fee time. Some companies might charge you over 2 hours for travel moving time. The normal movers rates should be about 2 hours of travel time - this should cover the gas fees too.
The hourly moving costs depend on the moving location and state
The local hourly moving prices in the New England area are a little bit higler than the hourly movers prices in for example New York, Chicago or LA. The good thing is that the quality of service is a lot higher. In the big megacities like NYC and Chicago, the movers competition is furious. There are many people to offer cheaper and unqualified labor that beats the local professional’s hourly movers rates in these regions. Here is why the big professional movers are forced to lower the prices and some times, even the moving services quality.

Rent a Moving Truck or let the Full Service Movers do the job?
To rent a moving truck or to hire full service movers? Depending on the situations both are a good option.
Truck rental and self moving
The money you are going to spend on moving truck rental and additional equipment like dollies (hand trucks), blankets and additional moving equipment could cost you about the same as hiring a professional company to handle your full service move. Do not forget the expensive insurance you pay on your truck rental. If you have heavy furniture and stairs or expensive delicate items you should be very careful taking them to the truck by yourself or with the help of your friends. Another vital factor of the safe transportation is loading the moving truck properly. If you are not sure how to do it so your household items arrive intact, you should consider hiring professionals. Finally you will have to drive the miles yourself on the moving truck and unload the truck alone at the destination address. Make the calculation in advance and compare the price with the professional movers quote.
Hiring Professional Full Service Movers

Xpress Movers are full service movers that provide free moving quotes by phone or email
If we are going to talk about value, you should consider hiring professional full service movers because you could receive more for your money. If you chose to go with the full service movers you will have your furniture and household goods professionally packed and loaded in the moving truck at the same moving rate. You will not have to worry about the stairs and the heavy items. Usually the full service movers complete the move faster because they are experienced and bring their own equipment that saves time at no additional cost like dollies, straps, moving trucks with ramps and multiple entrances. In addition most movers offer moving boxes, mattress covers, shrink wrap and tape at the moving location so you can use them if you need them.
Compare and decide
Make sure to check the moving truck rental final prices and additional expences (with all the taxes, fees ,mile charges, gas prices, tolls, additional equitment, packing materials, and insurances included) and compare with the free moving quote from the full service movers. That way you can easily decide which is most cost effective in your case.

Many moving companies and many moving reviews websites out there. The movers know that most of their customers are checking online for movers reviews and movers ratings on the moving company before hiring. Most of the moving companies are not as honest as you think.
Beware of Fake Moving Reviews
Many moving companies are writing movers reviews for their own moving company so that customers can read the fake moving ratings and hire the movers. Don’t get fooled by unprofessional movers. To avoid that you need to research a little bit more.
1. Check out the dates of the movers reviews. If there are several movers reviews posted on the same day by “different” people, they are obviously written by an employee of that very same moving company.
2. Visit and read different movers reviews websites. Checking the movers ratings on at least 2 different movers reviews websites is a must. Sometimes the company employees forget some of the movers ratings websites and you can read some real customers moving ratings there.
3. Advertising language. Some of the movers reviews are written as an advertisement. Read through more mover reviews to see if you can find a pattern.
4. From 5 to 0 stars. If you see both many excellent moving ratings and many poor movers reviews it is a cleat factor that the excellent moving reviews are written by the company and the poor moving ratings are by real customers of the moving company.
5. Most movers reviews websites rate the companies with 0 to 5 stars. Check out for 1,2,3 and 4 stars reviews. Usually the 4 stars movers reviews are written by real customers.
6. Check out movers reviews and movers ratings on MyMovingReviews.com before hiring your moving company.
By reading movers reviews you can learn a lot about the moving company, the way they do their job and the quality of service. The Moving Blog advice is to investigate a little before letting a moving company handle your precious possessions.

A list of all the services, companies and people you might want to inform prior to your move
There is a lot of work to be done before the moving day. Having all of the house services like Electric, Gas, Water etc. canceled for your old home is something you need to do in advance.
You need to do the same thing with your accounts. Some regional banks do not have locations near your new place or even your new state. You need to research a convenient bank to switch to and open an account.
Do the same with the Car insurance agency, personal or business broker, accountant any any other people that you and your business rely on.
Government Offices to visit before moving
Do not forget to notify the social security office and the Department of Motor Vehicles about your move. If you are moving interstate, you might want to have the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles office address ready as this is one of the first places you need to visit when you get to the new location.
Download and Print our moving checklist notification file
Download a Moving Checklist notification word document file so you don’t miss a thing before the moving day. The file is created by the professional movers at Xpress Movers and provided for free to all visitors of The Moving Blog:
Moving Notification Checklist File (.doc file)
Make sure you do not expect any deliveries on your old moving address after you leave.

Before hiring a moving company make sure it is a BBB accredited moving provider. This is a clear factor that the moving company you have selected cares about its public image and is willing to provide a better customer oriented moving service. Having BBB as a middle man ensures one better move.

Xpress Movers are accredited BBB movers
Our partners at Xpress Movers are one of the BBB movers with accreditation. We have asked Stoil Andreev - an operations manager for Eastern US about the process of accreditation of the BBB movers: “Getting a BBB accreditation is not that easy task. To become a BBB accredited moving company you have to comply with certain rules. Better Business Bureau does not register every moving company. I personally always check a given business if it has a BBB accreditation before using its services. All our suplliers and partners are BBB accredited businesses.” Mr. Andreev also pointed out the ability of the customers to interact with the movers through the BBB communication system and the positive effect on the moving services as a result.
Better Business Bureau has even published an article about hiring movers and moving companies. Click here to read the BBB article. Having a BBB moving company moving your furniture is not a 100% guarantee that there will be absolutely no problems in the moving day, but it is a plus when choosing a relocation company. And here is one more thing to remember: always research your movers before hiring!

Questions to ask your mover:
Are you an Agent? Do you work with Moving Agents?
Does the company work with agents? Some of the so called moving companies are nothing but salesmen who transfer your details to other movers. The actual movers you will be dailing with are a totally separate company you will want to research separately to make sure they will do thier part professionally.
Do you prepare a Household Goods Descriptive Inventory with every Moving Job?
All professional moving companies should prepare Household Goods Descriptive Inventories with every interstate move. Make sure your mover prepares such lists. This is a clear indicator whether the company you have selected is professional enough to handle your belongings.
BBB movers accreditation?
Make sure the mover is a BBB accredited business. This is a clear factor that the moving company cares about its public image and is willing to provide a better customer oriented business.
Positive moving reviews on the moving reviews websites?
Moving reviews websites like www.MyMovingReviews.com are the place to check every moving company before hiring. You can read many real customers horror or positive moving stories online. Make sure you also share your moving after your move is completed so others may know what company are they dealing with and what to expect.
Finding a reliable moving company is a challenge so take your time researching. Be alert about the things you do not understand and ask the salesman as soon as you have the picture clear. This will prevent the unpleasant surprises you may experience once you have your goods unloaded.
